Noah - Powerful, Intriguing and Provocative

Perhaps the reason that I was so intrigued by Russell Crowe's new movie, Noah, was the unanimity among very conservative Muslims, evangelical Christians and Roman Catholics that this was a study in misanthropy and a perversion of Genesis. And then there was a piece in the Wall Street Journal quoting Director and self-proclaimed atheist Darren Aronofsky "bragging" that this was the "least biblical" of any Bible story ever. ...

Clint Eastwood Goes Ape - Twice

In 1978, Clint Eastwood made the first of two movies in which he would star with, of all things, an orang-utan called Clyde. That movie was called Every Which Way But Loose, and despite all his advisors telling him not to make this "monkey" film - "It's just not you," they said - Clint took the gamble and went ahead and did this rather uncharacteristic and offbeat comedy. ...

The Grand Budapest Hotel - Movie Review

In the early 20th century at the famed European hotel, The Grand Budapest, legendary concierge Gustave H. (Ralph Fiennes) trains lobby boy Zero Moustafa (Tony Revolori) to provide top-notch service to guests. This training gets interrupted by a murder, a theft, an imprisonment, a rescue, a pastry apprentice, a love affair, and a wild ski chase in this artfully crazy story within a story by Wes Anderson that fully engages the senses (well, perhaps not much common sense). ...

While Not Quite Amazing, "The Amazing Spider-Man" Is Poignantly Human

Cinematic reboots are tricky propositions as their goal is to "reinvent the wheel" (even if that "wheel" isn't necessarily broken). But when a concept is rebooted so close in time to its last cinematic outing, it begs the question "is it really necessary"? Moreover, can it be accepted by the masses in the face of the reverence held for the previous incarnation? ...

A Review of the 2014 Film "Son of God"

It is rare for Hollywood to come out with a Bible-based motion picture that touches the hearts of viewers like "Son of God" does in every scene. This 2014 film is a compelling journey for viewers from every background, and its superior acting and musical score further add to its epic feel. The PG-13 historical drama follows the life of Jesus of Nazareth from his birth all the way to his crucifixion and resurrection. ...

The Hunger Games: A Reflection of Human Society

After watching a movie, it is a good practice to reflect upon the ideas presented in the events and characters and to ask yourself certain questions like "What does the movie say about me as an individual or about human behavior in general?" or "How is society reflected in the movie?" and to an extent "What is the cultural significance of the movie?" The reason why certain films become blockbuster hits is because they can relate a certain message powerfully to its audiences and paint a picture of humanity for us. ...

Movies And MP3

Movies and MP3 files are already compressed with near maximum capacity. Repacking them would just create larger files and increase decompression time. Ripped movies are still packaged due to the large file size, but compression is disallowed and the RAR format is used only as a container. Because of this, modern playback software can easily play a release directly from the packaged files, and even stream it as the release is downloaded (if the network is fast enough).

MP3 and music video releases are an exception in that they are not packaged into a single archive like almost all other sections. These releases have content that is not further compressible without loss of quality, but also have small enough files that they can be transferred reliably without breaking them up. Since these releases rarely have large numbers of files, leaving them unpackaged is more convenient and allows for easier scripting. For example, scripts can read ID3 information from MP3s and sort releases based on those contents.
