Though Cd's are still selling in the millions every week, for the most part they will be used once (to put the contents onto ones I-pod) and then will spend the rest of its life as a drinks coaster or simply a redundant disk cluttering up space.
There were other models of mp3 player before the I-pod, however they were never as universally popular with the music listening populace, which makes up most of the population of the world.
It could be argued that this is because the I-pod offers a far more aesthetically pleasing user interface than the early mp3 players. Personally, I would say that this would be a reasonable point to make.
The early mp3 players tended to be smaller and only had a small screen which couldn't fit a great deal of information on it, Whereas the I-pod has a far bigger screen and so is able to list tracks in a much more effective way.
The I-pod also had a touch pad which was something that not too many people had used before, and so that made it exciting and almost futuristic to use and to have.
Another great thing about the modern day I-pod and a reason its so popular is that it is not limited to music. It can support pretty much all media types, like pictures, voice recording, video playback and you can even play games on the newer models.
So to create fantastic ways to pass time when its refusing to pass quickly enough, or just for background music when carrying out tasks, the I-pod is the all-in-one accessory of the decade.
