The band wasn't named Green Day when they first started playing small California gigs. Performing as the group Sweet Children, they worked their way into the California punk seen in the late eighties and early nineties. They signed with Lookout! Records in 1989 and released their first EP, "1,000 Hours". One issue that came up for the trio is that another local band had a similar name, so to set themselves apart, the group started performing under the name Green Day.
Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool have achieved what many small local bands starting out dream of - rockstar status, a huge fan base and the chance to spread their music and rock hard. For this reason, they truly are icons in the punk world and are an inspiration to young people, especially budding musicians everywhere.
Now the band is working their first worldwide tour in three years. The tour starts with a concert in Seattle before heading all over the United states and the world, promoting their latest album. The release, titled "21st Century Breakdown" boasts five hit singles and over twelve million copies sold.
Green Day has achieved iconic status over the years, going from a punk alternative band to a feature on major network magazines and interviews. As their tour geared up for launch, the band members were in extreme demand for interviews from all major networks.
Green Day will play at the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston, MA on July 20, 2009. The show starts at 7:30 PM. Tickets are priced at $25 - $50 and can be purchased at the TD Banknorth Garden Box Office or at TicketZinger.com. Doors will open at 6:30 PM. This show is all ages.
