Heartbreak Ridge: Eastwood is so entertaining to watch, as a hell raising occupation marine sergeant who beats a battalion of youthful initiates into condition, that he makes this unsurprising and protracted film work. However it's still pretty object stuff and takes longer to play out than the true invasion of Grenada it illustrates. Cast includes Clint Eastwood, Marsha Mason, Everett McGill, Moses Gunn, Eileen Heckart, Bo Svenson, Boyd Gaines, Mario Minivan Peebles, and Arlen Dean Snyder. (130 minutes, 1986)
The Face Behind the Mask: Model B film of immigrant Lorre having her face maimed in fire, donning mask, bitterly turning to life of offense. Here is an incredibly well finished film on a thin spending limit. Cast includes Peter Lorre, Evelyn Keyes, Don Beddoe, George E. Rock, and John Tyrrell. (69 minutes, 1941)
Frantic: Dr. Richard Walker and his wife Sondra are in Paris for the doctors medical conference. Then suddenly Sondra is gone. Then, in a foreign country getting no help, Dr. Walker frantically tries to track the kidnappers down.
Fanfan La Tulipe: An admirable satire of swashbuckling fables. Philipe is superlative as sword-wielding, love-thirsty 18th-century Frenchman joining Louis XV's army. Cast includes Gerard Philipe, Gina Lollobrigida, Noel Roquevert, Olivier Hussenot, Marcel Herrand, Sylvie Pelayo, and Genevieve Page. (99 minutes, 1952)
Faces: Highly personal tirade in regards to numerous infidelities is one of the few Cassel films to make it with basic civic. Here's a commanding film with awesome action, particularly by Carlin and Cassel. Cast includes John Marley, Gena Rowlands, Lynn Carlin, Seymour Cassel, Fred Draper, and Val Avery. (130 minutes, 1968)
Irreversible: "Debatable" doesn't start to explain this gross, over the top, rape and revenge story, told in look backs, spotlighting occurrences around the defiling of gorgeous Bellucci. Graphically vicious, even by modern-day guidelines, this hyped up exploitation film characterizes a lengthened rape scene and cruel kill that's difficult to endure. Cast includes Monica Bellucci, Vincent Cassel, Albert Dupontel, Philippe Nahon, and Jo Prestia. (95 minutes, 2002)
Ivan the Horrible: Film spectacle of the highest request. Eisenstein's remarkably lavish but detailed journal of King Ivan IV's life from coronation to conquer to reinstatement. A forging captivating icon of the gentleman and his nation can be found here. Improved by Prokofiev's primordial score so be it. Bulky going, although beneficial; the tale proceeds in Ivan the Awful. Cast includes Sergei Eisenstein, Nikolai Cherkassov, Ludmila Tselikovskaya, and Serafima Birman. (99 minutes, 1943)
Formula Fifty One: Crazy, tongue-in-cheek Hong Kong-fashion yam loaded with action and brutality. Jackson plays a pharmaceutical whiz that creates the final narcotic, then triple-crosses his L.A. connection Beef Loaf and soars to Liverpool to make a more profitable deal there. Mortimer is fun and a gun-toting, motorcycle-riding hit female. Cast includes Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Carlyle, Emily Mortimer, Rhys Mans, Meat Loaf, Sean Pertwee, Ricky Tomlinson, and Paul Barber. (91 minutes, 2001)
Rogue Cop: Dynamic account of a crooked cop stuck between loyalty to his sibling and his gangster cohorts. Cast includes Robert Taylor, Janet Leigh, George Raft, Steve Forrest, Anne Francis, Robert F. Simon, Robert Ellenstein, Alan Hale, Jr., and Vince Edwards. (92 minutes, 1954)
