Purchasing New Pickups For Your Electric Guitar

By Kyle Zoltowski

The sensual and colorful pitch of electric guitars was the pinnacle of rock and roll. During the 1950's, this sound was being tried and then in the 60's and 1970's, that creation was added to until it transformed into rock and roll. The amazing sound that comes from an electric guitar is simply beautiful. It is amazing to ponder where music would have ended up if it hadn't been for the creation of the electric guitar; a terrible idea. A band without an electric guitar is like a child without its parents.

Electric guitars come in various contours, sizes, colors, and designs. Some think that it does not bear significance what electric guitar that is used because they all are electric guitars. This is is not the case; brand, size, pickups, and neck play a part in the sound that is made. Because of this, certain brands of electric guitars have been the choice for decades because of the perfection in sound. Although, the largest contributing factor to the sound type is the pickups.

Whether starting a brand new band, jamming solo, or adding some weapons to your band's arsenal, you should be aware of the different arrangement of pickups used in electric guitars prior to your purchase. Many instrument shops will let you you picking them up and whaling and can be very helpful in providing information and assisting one in buying the most suitable electric guitar. Make sure to get an explanation about the different types of pickups. Thetypes of pickups for electric guitars are:

* Single Coil Pickups - This style has a single wire and coil. This type is the oldest of electric guitar types. When strumming on single coil pickup, the sound is drowned by other frequencies in the air which make a humming sound. These types of pickups are rarely seen today but are the choice of a few very well known rockers because of the blues-like sound they produce.

* Humbucker Pickups - This pickup has two coils so the unwanted hum of the single coil pickup was cancelled out. Basically, the coil processes two signals: one that the strings are letting out and one that eliminates the hum. The actual piece in this arrangement is called a Humbucker which was patented in 1954. The humbucker is basically the arrangement of two coils.

* Double Coil Pickups - These pickups, just like their name, have two coils. Though, for one reason, guitarists do like the hum sound once in a while so the double coil pickup electric guitars sometimes come with a switch that can cancel the second coil.

There are things that go into the sound an electric guitar makes. However, pickups are the single most important part of the electric guitar. Other things for example: neck length, shape, material, frets, and tuners also play a part but not like the pickups. For years, rock stars have been experimenting the perfect guitar to make the best sound. Rock and roll has transformed in some ways but in other ways it has stayed the same.

Movies And MP3

Movies and MP3 files are already compressed with near maximum capacity. Repacking them would just create larger files and increase decompression time. Ripped movies are still packaged due to the large file size, but compression is disallowed and the RAR format is used only as a container. Because of this, modern playback software can easily play a release directly from the packaged files, and even stream it as the release is downloaded (if the network is fast enough).

MP3 and music video releases are an exception in that they are not packaged into a single archive like almost all other sections. These releases have content that is not further compressible without loss of quality, but also have small enough files that they can be transferred reliably without breaking them up. Since these releases rarely have large numbers of files, leaving them unpackaged is more convenient and allows for easier scripting. For example, scripts can read ID3 information from MP3s and sort releases based on those contents.
