How To String A Guitar - Read These 5 Things Before You Start

By Jon J Tan

Changing your own guitar strings is something that every guitarist should know how to do. It is part of the overall guitar maintenance process and there is little reason why you should get somebody else to do it for you. Not to worry, it is quite a simple thing to do this and it is not at all likely that you will cause any damage. Read the 5 tips below to do the string change properly:

1. Buy the right guitar string. Different guitars use different kinds of strings made out of different materials. Using the wrong kind of strings can result in permanent damage to your guitar. Acoustic and electric guitars use metal based strings while classical guitars use nylon strings.

2. Use the correct tension guitar string. For beginners, you would want to start with a lower tension or "gauge" string. You will find that there are several string tensions available at any guitar shop. The higher the "gauge", the higher then tension. Beginners will find that using lower tension strings is more comfortable on the fingers.

3. Do change your guitar strings one at a time. It is recommended that you change the strings one at a time, rather than removing all the strings before replacing them with new ones. This will help preserve the tension of the guitar neck and wood, reducing the possibility of damage to your precious instrument.

4. Use a string winder. A string winder is a valuable tool for any guitarist and it will save valuable time. It will cut down the time you will need to unwind and wind the strings by a significant amount. Use one so you can get back to playing the guitar quickly!

5. Do not cut your strings before tuning. The strings of the guitar have the tendency to slip slightly during the string change process. Because of this reason, it is highly recommended to tune your guitar up to pitch before you cut the strings. If you don't follow this process you might find that the strings might slip off the guitar before you are done.

Movies And MP3

Movies and MP3 files are already compressed with near maximum capacity. Repacking them would just create larger files and increase decompression time. Ripped movies are still packaged due to the large file size, but compression is disallowed and the RAR format is used only as a container. Because of this, modern playback software can easily play a release directly from the packaged files, and even stream it as the release is downloaded (if the network is fast enough).

MP3 and music video releases are an exception in that they are not packaged into a single archive like almost all other sections. These releases have content that is not further compressible without loss of quality, but also have small enough files that they can be transferred reliably without breaking them up. Since these releases rarely have large numbers of files, leaving them unpackaged is more convenient and allows for easier scripting. For example, scripts can read ID3 information from MP3s and sort releases based on those contents.
