A Home Theater In A Box Is Affordable

By Ken Dragki

Wireless technologies have improved to a point where the difference in sound quality is negligible to most ears. This has seen more and more manufacturers beginning to include wireless surround sound speakers as a part of their home-theater-in-a-box systems.

The first step in buying your system is to establish a budget. You can spend as little or as much as you want to on home theaters, but like anything else, you get what you pay for. Some home theater systems will cost you as little as $200, but at that price you are sacrificing quite a lot in the sound quality department.

Make sure to bring a favorite music CD and DVD (or Blu-ray) to listen to and watch. Home theater is a very subjective experience. You want to make sure that the choice you make will sound good for your listening habits.

When you have one or two systems in mind, the next step is to head to your local electronics retailer or home theater store. These will usually have sound rooms that are set-up with several different systems. The store will almost certainly have their own CDs and movies which are chosen because they sound the best on the systems they are selling.

A more elaborate system can cost thousands of dollars for top performing equipment like projectors, DVD, amplifiers and controllers for channels, speakers and sub woofers with awesome sound effects. A home theater in a box is an affordable way to have a home theater costing anywhere from $200 to a couple thousand which include the basic items such as DVD player, several compact speakers. The in a box home theater system is designed to be used with your existing television and comes with easy to follow directions to setup. The only addition may be to upgrade to a big screen TV.

If you want to get the best home theater system for your budget, you need to be prepared for a little hard work. Planning, researching and testing all the various options will take time, but the end result will be worth it. The system you buy will likely be with you for several years, so make sure you take the time to find something you will be happy with.

Movies And MP3

Movies and MP3 files are already compressed with near maximum capacity. Repacking them would just create larger files and increase decompression time. Ripped movies are still packaged due to the large file size, but compression is disallowed and the RAR format is used only as a container. Because of this, modern playback software can easily play a release directly from the packaged files, and even stream it as the release is downloaded (if the network is fast enough).

MP3 and music video releases are an exception in that they are not packaged into a single archive like almost all other sections. These releases have content that is not further compressible without loss of quality, but also have small enough files that they can be transferred reliably without breaking them up. Since these releases rarely have large numbers of files, leaving them unpackaged is more convenient and allows for easier scripting. For example, scripts can read ID3 information from MP3s and sort releases based on those contents.
